Being a rowing parent can be baffling - knowing what your rower has to pack; the times and dates of training and regattas; getting to know the logistics of transportation; preparing food and essentials for them; understanding what is expected of your rower from their coach; and what is expected of YOU to get them to training and regattas promptly......so there is no such thing as a silly question!
A few things:
When you attend a regatta, BYO a coffee, an umbrella, binoculars, sunscreen, a hat, water, food, sneakers/thongs, something warm/cool if the weather turns, your camera, and a chair!
When you arrive, look for the CGS tent and head there. Throughout the regatta, you may walk along the banks of the river; do an hour or two of BRO duties; go for coffee with other parents, yell with the other spectators as your child races up the river, and marvel at all the other schools and clubs who are doing the same.
At most regattas, there's usually a beautiful bike track that runs alongside the river, so be sure to throw in your bike! Parents often ride along the bike path while their crew is racing!
Exhilarating!
