With a rowing club of over 200 students ranging from novice to experienced rowers and about 400 parents, it is essential that all communication that parents have with coaches is always respectful.
Our coaches will not compromise the integrity of their decisions based on a parent’s political pressure or position. Our coaches teach our athletes that being part of a team is a privilege and that rowing time and position in a crew is earned.
It is not acceptable that our coaches are cornered after a race, are spoken to or sent unsavory emails from parents who think they know better than the coach whose job is literally on the line with every win and every loss.
Coaches understand how much parents love their kids and want the best for them, but it is this “big love” that can sometimes make parents a little short-sighted. Fighting your child’s battles is not what is best for them.
Our coaches need parents’ support so that each rower learns to:
Coaching for our coaches often supplements other jobs and university studies, so parents need to be mindful that coaching is not the full time job of the majority of our coaches.
They are committed to coaching during training sessions and for regattas and camps. In saying that, if you wish to contact your rower's coach, email the Rowing Administrator, Lexie Perrott, and she will put you in touch.
Under no circumstances are coaches to be approached during regattas. During training, always confirm that coaches are available to chat before launching into a conversation. At all times coaches will be focused on their crew, ensuring that the crew (as a collective) is well looked after.
