Acknowledgement of Country
We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we meet and row, the Wurundjeri-balluk and Wurrundjeri-willam clans of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their care of this land that has been for thousands of years. We also extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are part of our School community today.
In these special places on which our School and its rowing sheds are located, we acknowledge the stories and traditions that have come before us. We respect the continuing culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – Australia’s First Peoples, and commit to building a brighter future together as Australians.
The Pennefather Club (TPC) is the parent support group for the Caulfield Grammar School Rowing Club. The Pennefather Club was named after Harold Pennefather who was the first rowing coach at Caulfield back in 1957.
TPC falls under the Caulfield Grammar Supporters Association umbrella and the President sits in the CGSA.
TPC is led by the President who retains the position for a minimum of 2 years. Within the committee are Office Bearers such as the Club Secretary, Vice President, BRO Coordinator, Events, Marketing & Comms, Treasurer, Regatta Liaison with a handful of advisors. The committee drives the social activities of the club, communicates with parents, and supports the coaches who in turn support all rowers at both Caulfield and Wheelers Hill Campuses
At the conclusion of the Regatta Season TPC hosts a special Presentation Dinner for Year 10 and Senior Rowers. This is a formal sit-down dinner for parents, rowers and coaches - an occasion where rowers are recognized for their contribution to the rowing season, and is attended by the School Principal and other School dignitaries.
Junior and Recreational Rowers are also recognized for their contribution to the rowing season by being part of a wonderful celebration at the School.
Throughout the season TPC will organize adhoc BBQs, sell merchandise, do some minor fundraising and provide occasions where parents and rowers can engage and get to know each other
It is a myth that rowing is an expensive sport. It is also a myth that being a parent of a rower is taxing and time-consuming. The benefits of your child being part of the rowing program is often profound and parents are often amazed at the skills their child develops over time. This includes their growing respect for their health and fitness, their ability to be cohesive and to work within a team, the increase in their attention to detail and organizational skills, and the actual sport itself.
It’s a lovely thing to do – sit and row in a boat on a peaceful body of water with your friends, with the sun on your face, using all the muscles in your body, with the determination of giving your best for yourself, your crew and your school.
Have a question about the Committee, the Coaches, Parents, Rowers or anything to do with the rowing club, please send us a message, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
